DAY 4: PAINT TINY COLOR STUDIES

Spend a day doing many tiny color studies no more than 2″ × 3″(5cm × 8cm) in size. Each study should be a mini-poster of flat colors with simplified shapes of accurately related color and shadow. Paint them, using as large a brush as you can, with oil or gouache on paper, canvas board or canvas paper. Keep it simple! Don't be precious or use too nice a surface; these are not finished paintings. they could be plans for many future paintings.

LESSON LEARNED: A small study becomes your guide for the quick lay-in of a larger canvas. Small color studies also let you try a few different compositional arrangements without a great expense of time and energy.
